About used tankers & tenders

Buying guidance

Tankers — tenders, depending on where you are — carry water to everywhere without hydrants and keep an attack supplied. For rural and suburban departments a used tanker is one of the cheapest ways to improve water supply, and as the largest buyer and seller of used fire apparatus in North America, Brindlee Mountain usually holds more of them than anything else.

Most searches start with two numbers: tank capacity and pump flow. After that, look at the dump valves and where they sit, how quickly the truck fills and offloads, and whether a portable tank travels with it. The chassis decides the rest — a single rear axle or a tandem, the cab style, and whether the builder is a commercial truck manufacturer or a fire apparatus shop. Full of water a tanker is heavy, so check the chassis rating, brakes and suspension alongside mileage and engine hours.

Ask for a recent pump test on anything carrying a pump, and for the maintenance file either way. Filter by price, year, state or tank size, and save a search so Firetruck Finder tells you when a matching tanker is listed. Trade-ins are quoted, if the truck you are replacing is going out the door.
